Mascall Overlook-John Day Fossil Beds: Eastern Oregon Landscape Photography

Photo taken from the Mascall Overlook looking northwest at US Highway 26 as it enters the perfectly sculpted Picture Gorge in eastern Oregon. The John Day River is to the right of the highway, and it is hard to see in this photo, but it is there. Sheep Rock is in the background with it's pointy peak just sticking out in the upper left third of the picture. Picture Gorge is the gateway to the southern part of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. In this picture the highway looks as if it is being swallowed by the mouth of the gorge. The partly cloudy-partly sunny sky contrasts nicely with the brown of the canyon walls and the green grass of the farmlands surrounding the river in the foreground. One look at this photo and you can see why they call it Picture Gorge. Frame this photo and hang it on the wall in your living room, office, hallway or bedroom.
