Bailey Butte-John Day Fossil Beds: Eastern Oregon Landscape Photography

Photo looking south on Highway 207 at Bailey Butte. Bailey Butte sits right above Mitchell, a little town in eastern Oregon on U.S. Highway 26. The high cliff that arcs across the top of the butte is formed by ancient Hudspeth mudstone injected by a thick dike of Clarno andesite. I don't know what any of that is, but it sure looks cool. The pointed hill farther off in the distance is Juniper Butte. It is kinda neat how the two hills line up in this photograph with Bailey Butte being the closest. This photo was taken in June 2012, early enough in the year that Juniper Butte still has some green on it. Give this photo a happy home by framing it to hang on the wall in your living room, office, hallway or bedroom, or use it to make a post card.
