View Around the Corner-Highway 218: Eastern Oregon Landscape Photography
Photo of Oregon State Highway 218 as it winds it's way around a hairpin corner looking east at the hills surrounding the John Day Fossil Bed Clarno Unit. This is the stretch of highway between the towns of Fossil and Antelope. This photo was taken in late May of 2012 during the late Spring, as evident by the combination of green and yellow grass in the foreground and dark brown dirt. These rich and vibrant colors are the result of rains in the March and April months and a dry May. A bit of a twist on the old saying, April showers bring May flowers. In this case, a dry and sunny May will dry out certain areas turning the grass a more yellow and gold color, while the other areas that remain more hydrated still have green grass and brown dirt. These color combinations make it the most beautiful time of the year to be in Eastern Oregon. The highway comes into the picture long enough to show us this beautiful view, then it makes it's way around the corner and out of the picture again on to it's next destination. Hang this picture on the wall in your living room, office, hallway or bedroom.
