Historic Old Antelope Schoolhouse: Central Oregon Ghost Towns

Photo of the old Antelope School House in the ghost town of Antelope, Oregon which is about 10 miles off of U.S. Highway 97 in rural Wasco County. The school was built and opened in 1924 and operated as a public school until 1984 when the Rajneesh movement took over the town and the school. They closed the school, re-painted it the green color seen in the photo, and moved in and inhabited it. After the Rajneesh's left the following year, it became a community center/city hall in which it is still being used as such to this day. The paint is pealing as evident by the photo, the facade is cracked, and the front doors don't open. This building is in need of a serious makeover, but it is on the National Historic Registry. Efforts are currently underway to try to raise enough money to restore this 100 year old landmark. Hang this piece of history on the wall in your living room, office, hallway or bedroom.
