Highway 26 Through Picture Gorge: Eastern Oregon Landscape Photography

Photo of US Highway 26 as it winds it's way through Picture Gorge along the John Day River in eastern Oregon. This photo was taken on a partly cloudy-partly sunny day in June of 2012 looking west up Highway 26 as it makes it's way around the corner and disappears into the gaping canyon. Picture Gorge is the gateway to the southern part of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. In this picture, the highway looks as if it has a bit of a dip in it, probably caused from upheaval due to the extreme temperature differences the highway is subjected to in the desert climate. The canyon walls are so perfectly sculpted and chiseled from 40 million years of flood and volcanic activity, they look like they have six-pack abs. The volcanic rock is cut and forged so fine from the cataclysmic events over the years, they look as if they were cut with a knife by a human. Perfect photo to frame and hang it on the wall in your living room, office, hallway or bedroom to look at and get lost in time.
