Forever Autumn in the Columbia River Gorge: Oregon Landscape Photography

This photo was taken in November of the Columbia River just east of the little town of Mosier, which is about halfway between Hood River and The Dalles. This photo is looking west down river toward Mosier and the Cascade Mountains. This is a pretty typical scene on the east side of the Columbia Gorge late in the year as you have just a smattering of pine trees leftover as the lush forests of western Oregon transition to the high desert regions of central and eastern Oregon. The few remaining deciduous trees that line the river have an orange hue as they shed their last leaves before winter. The golden hills on the Washington side of the river dominate the scene as the clouds in the background are trapped in the last remaining mountains of the Cascades, failing to get moisture to the much needed dying yellow grass in the foreground. The shade over the rocks suggests this photo was taken early in the day, perhaps before noon as the sun is still to the east. This photo is perfect to hang on the wall in your living room, office, hallway or bedroom. Also perfect to make a postcard out of.
